A new cooperation established for fitness and outdoor sectors
Building on the agreement signed in 2012 between EuropeActive and the European Confederation of Outdoor Employers (EC-OE) to establish the Active Leisure Alliance this is being extended to develop a Sector Skills Alliance. At the International Standards Meeting in Athens Julian Berriman, Director of Professional Standards Committee for EuropeActive and Herman Smulders, President of EC-OE signed a new memorandum of cooperation.
The new Sector Skills Alliance is designed to tackle the skills agenda for the Active Leisure Sector by aligning Vocational Education and Training (VET) systems with labour market needs. The extension of the existing Active Leisure Alliance offers the opportunity to increase Sectoral cooperation in order to design and deliver joint curricula and methods targeting the Sector specific professions and occupations while providing the identified vocational skills required by the labour market. The main goal is a systemic impact on vocational training in the Active Leisure Sector in order to boost the quality and relevance of VET provision and increase competitiveness and growth of the Sector and beyond.
The Sector Skills Alliance is an important outcome of the SIQAF project which is looking at the relevance of active leisure qualifications to the European Qualification Framework as part of the Erasmus+ Programme.
