What it takes to be “ready” for the future of skills and employment

Modern societies are characterised by increased demand for progress and innovation. Driven by so called mega trends – digitalisation, globalisation, greening of the economy and demographic change – the European workforce needs to adapt to remain competitive in the globalised world. The ability to upskill and reskill will be the individual’s currency and therefore, lifelong learning will be crucial to remain in the job markets of the future.

Consequently, people who possess relatively low basic skills such as numeracy and literacy are at high risk to be left behind labour market changes.

The European Parliament’s Policy Department for Economic, Scientific and Quality of Life Policies presented with their briefing note a comprehensive picture on the current situation of EU policies for Vocational Education and Training (VET) and upskilling.

EuropeActive is undertaking with the EU-funded project Blueprint (2018-2020) its own activity in the field of skills intelligence. It has currently completed the Skills Foresight 2019 to gain an in depth understanding where the sector will be moving in the future and how we can best prepare Fitness employers and professionals.
